Abstract
Nine new species of Gyrodactylus are described from the southeastern U. S. as follows: G. alabanensis sp. n. from the Alabama chub, Nocomis leptocephalus bellicus Girard; G. albeoli sp. n. from the white shiner, Notropis albeolus Jordan; G. gloriosi sp. n. from the blue-spotted sunfish, Enneacanthus gloriosus (Holbrook); G. illigatus sp. n. from the silverband shiner, Notropis shumardi (Girard);G. lingulatus sp. n. from the Alabama hogsucker, Hypentelium etowanum (Jordan); G. magniclypeus sp. n. from the black jumprock, Moxostoma cervinum (Cope);G. nannus sp. n. from the tidewater silverside, Menidia beryllina (Cope); and G. tennesseensis sp. n. from the southern redbelly dace, Chrosomus erythrogaster (Raf.). G. fairporti Van Cleave, 1921, from the speckled bullhead, Ictalurus nebulosus marmoratus (Holbrook) and G. cyprini Diarova, 1964, from the carp, Cyprinus carpio L. are redes-cribed. Host fish were collected from Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and Virginia. Type specimens were deposited in the USNM Helminthol-ogical Collection, Beltsville, Maryland.
