Abstract
In order to study the function of adrenergic receptors in the submaxillary gland in vivo, rats were treated with the α-sympathicolytic, phentolamine (Regitin®) and with the β-sympathicolytic, propranolol (Dociton®) and the protein, amylase, and isoamylase content of their submaxillary glands were investigated. The protein concentration rises after 3 weeks of α- as well as combined α-and β-sympathicolysis while the amylase concentrations remain, on the whole, unchanged. The pharmacologically induced secretory inhibitions are being discussed in connection with the generally accepted receptor functions. This publication has 16 references indexed in Scilit:
