Abstract
To determine current‐density profiles in toroidal plasmas, a submillimeter‐laser polarimeter was fabricated and its perfomance assessed. Measurements of simulated plasma Faraday rotations demonstrated a sensitivity of 26 mV/mrad for an optically pumped 4‐mW 393‐μm far‐infrared (FIR) laser and a polarization modulation angle of 149 mrad. Time resolution of the order of milliseconds was obtained. Keywords
