Abstract
Cerebral infarction and carotid arteritis have not been reported previously in association with progressive systemic sclerosis (PSS). In the internal carotid arterial wall, intimal proliferation and collagenous thickening of the media were seen. The small arteries and arterioles of the carotid adventitia were affected by inflammation, intimal proliferation, and fibrinoid change typical of PSS. Throughout the cerebral white matter of the grossly unaffected hemisphere were microinfarcts associated with arteriolar fibrosis. This publication has 5 references indexed in Scilit:
