Abstract
An apparatus is descr. for estimating the density of sulfide precipitates in histological sections prepared by a modification of the Gomori method for phosphatases. The microscopic image is projected onto a photomicrograph camera clear glass screen where it is measured by a Photovolt photometer. The densitometric readings increase logarithmically with increased tissue section thickness, approximating the conditions of the Beer-Lambert equation. Reproducibility of repeated observations was within [plus or minus] 0.1%; observations in adjacent sections could be reproduced within [plus or minus] 2%. The method is suited for comparative estimations of enzymatic activity.
