Abstract
Spinach and Swiss Chard were grown by using colloidal clay cultures in which 20 treatments of variable soil N and Ca were provided. Plant analyses revealed that the vitamin C conc. increases as the fertility of the soil with respect to N decreases, denoting a negative correlation between the yields of the crop and its content of ascorbic acid. Variations in the mineral constituents of the plants suggested an inverse relationship between vitamin C on the one hand and total N and Mg on the other, while the Ca and P concs. showed a direct correlation with the vitamin C content.Keywords
