Abstract
Normal [male] dogs maintained on constant food and fluid intake were treated with DOCA in sesame oil administered intramusc. and DOCA in propylene glycol administered sublingually. The effect of this therapy on plasma vol. and electrolyte balance was studied. A single daily intramusc. inj. of 5 mg. of synthetic DOCA in oil for 5 days resulted in an appreciable increase in plasma vol. The sublingual adm. of 15 mg. of hormone daily (5 mg., 3 times daily) was less effective in this respect. Increases in plasma vol. were accompanied by a retention of Na and Cl. Supplementary NaCl therapy did not enhance the effect of synthetic hormone on plasma vol. This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
