Abstract
Lithospermum ruderale was fed to intact and castrated female mice. Castrated animals were sacrificed at 10-day intervals beginning at 20 days and extending to 60 days. Lithosperm admn. diminished gonadotrophin titer in a highly significant manner only after 40 days of castration, when the female assay animal was used. This effect reached a maximum at 50 days. By 60 days the animals had apparently become refractory to the drug and exhibited a return to normal post-castration potency. Pituitary material from 20-day castrated female mice on lithosperm when assayed on male and female mice at a higher pituitary equivalent dose showed marked depression of LH content alone. Keywords
