Experimental Study of the Decays $K_{S, L} \to γ γ$

Abstract

In an optical spark-chamber experiment, we measured the branching ratio

\frac{(K_{S} \to γ γ)}{(K_{S} \to all)}

to be (-1.9 ± 2.4) ×

10^{- 4}

. The result assumes no interference between

K_{S} \to γ γ

and

K_{L} \to γ γ

. We also measured the branching ratio

\frac{(K_{L} \to γ γ)}{(K_{L} \to all)}

to be

(4.32 \pm 0.55) \times 10^{- 4} \times {| \frac{η_{00}}{η_{+ -}} |}^{2}

.
