Abstract
An orotic acid-fermenting anaerobic bacterium was characterized and placed in the new genus, Zymobacterium as the sp. Z. oroticum, nov. sp. The new genus, which is placed tentatively in the family Lactobacteriaceae, is defined so as to include gram positive, anaerobic, nonsporeforming rods that form predominantly ethanol and carbon dioxide from glucose. Keywords
