Abstract
The insect growth regulators (IGRs) diflubenzuron and BAY SIR 8514 were evaluated for their effects on three beneficial insect species associated with peach: Chrysopa oculata Say (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae), Acholla multispinosa DeGeer (Hemiptera: Reduviidae), and Macrocentrus ancylivorus (Rohwer) (Hymenoptera: Braconidae). Both topical treatment and contact with IGR-treated leaves caused significant mortality and inhibition of moulting of 1st-instar C. oculata. These same treatments had no such effects on 1st-instar A. multispinosa. IGR-treated prey fed to C. oculata or A. multispinosa had no adverse effects on these predators. Diflubenzuron and BAY SIR 8514 both reduced the emergence of M. ancylivorus adults from treated Grapholitha molesta (Busck) larvae that had successfully pupated. Addition of BAY SIR 8514 to the diet of adult M. ancylivorus reduced parasitism of oriental fruit moth 4-fold.This publication has 7 references indexed in Scilit:
