Plasma Enzyme Elevations with LDH Viruses from Different Tumors.

Abstract
Summary 1. A number of transplantable mouse tumors were examined for presence of LDH virus by measurement of plasma LDH in the tumor-bearing host and by injection of plasma from the tumor-bearing animal into test mice. In the majority of cases a high plasma LDH in the tumor-bearing animal was associated with presence of the virus. 2. Plasma levels of LDH, ICDH and PHI were measured at 4, 7 and 21 days following infection with viruses from 8 different tumors. Essentially identical elevations of LDH (5.1-fold), ICDH (6.8-fold) and PHI (3.6-fold) resulted from infection with each of the 8 agents. 3. The results suggest a common mechanism of action of LDH viruses and are consistent with observations that the agents depress host plasma enzyme clearance mechanisms.
