Abstract
Histologic changes and the presence of elementary and inclusion bodies (LCL) in White Leghorn chickens inoculated with a turkey strain of ornithosis agent were most frequent in the trachea, lung, air sac, cerebrum, and heart. Recovery of the agent from the spleen was not a regular finding, and histopathologic changes or the presence of LCL bodies in this organ were rare. LCL bodies were also infrequent in the liver or kidney, despite the presence of other microscopic lesions. The potential of chickens are reservoirs and as asymptomatic carriers of the ornithosis agent is emphasized. Examination of tissues for the presence of LCL bodies and histologic changes was shown to be available aid to diagnosis of ornithosis in chickens. This publication has 5 references indexed in Scilit:
