Abstract
Using the 'adiabatic' assumptions of Austern and Blair (1965) one can derive an expression for the inelastic S matrix which is valid for arbitrary coupling strength. The power-series expansion of this expression is shown to correspond to the infinite-order distorted-wave approximation whose nth-order term contains the nth derivative of the elastic S matrix. The results of the adiabatic couple-channels method are numerically compared with those obtained from other approximations. Keywords
