Abstract
ADIPOSE tissue, previously thought to be metabolically inert, has now been recognized as one of the most active tissues in the body,1 being a major site of insulin activity and carbohydrate-lipid interaction. As a result, there has been a renewed interest in the problems of obesity, with a re-examination of lipid metabolism for possible differences between obese and normal subjects. The purpose of the present study is to analyze one parameter of lipid metabolism in obesity — namely, the concentration of plasma free fatty acid (FFA = nonesterified fatty acid = NEFA).The primary source from which lipid is mobilized . . .Keywords
