Abstract
A NUMBER of adverse reactions to sulfonamides has been reported during the thirty years that have elapsed since the introduction of these drugs.1 , 2 Hepatic injury, one of the most important adverse effects, has been described many times; yet some of the current pharmacology textbooks omit mention of this possibility. The importance of this side effect has not been diminished by the advent of the many other antimicrobial agents, since sulfonamides continue to be prescribed extensively.3 A review of the world literature has revealed 57 reports of sulfonamide hepatotoxicity, which included a total of 106 cases.
