Abstract
Only 1 site of urease activity was detected by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis for 12 spp. of Ustilago and 2 sites for U. maydis. No overtly variant urease was found for 33 wild strains of U. violacea. Species of Ustilago with monocotyledonous hosts were distinguished from species with dicotyledonous [Caryophyllaceae] hosts by their site of urease activity. Keywords
