The determination of vitamin D in food substances containing phosphorus

Abstract
When rats made rachitic by feeding on a diet with high-Ca, low-P content, the amt. of healing (as measured by the line test) brought about by giving vit. D plus P in the form of K phosphate is much greater than the sum of the amts. of healing brought about by each of the factors alone. It is therefore necessary in a detn. of the vit. D content of a substance which contains Ca and P in a ratio different from the one of the basal diet, to saponify the substance and determine the vit. D value of the ether extract.
