Abstract
Three expts. involving 8,498 inseminations to cows were conducted to determine the effect on fertility of adding 300 mg. of sulfanilamide/100 ml. to the yolk-citrate-diluent used. In the 1st expt. no benefit was observed. This result was attributed to the direct effect of sunlight on the stored citrate-sulfanilamide solns. used for making the final diluent. In 2 expts. in which the citrate-sulfanilamide solns. were carefully handled improvement in fertility resulted, amounting to 6.1% of the cows bred in one and 4.5% of the cows in the other. The results were interpreted as being due largely to the effect on spermatozoa metabolism, rather than due to bacterial control alone. This publication has 7 references indexed in Scilit:
