Abstract
The enthalpy of formation of binary transitional metal alloys is shown to be due to the electronic d character of their valence states. Predictions about their general trends among the three series are made in a tight-binding scheme, using a simple model for the density of states of the alloys based on an expansion in its moments. Keywords
