Microbial flora associated with Candida albicans vulvovaginitis

Abstract
The relationship between vaginal microflora C. albicans vulvovaginitis is studied. Results obtained from 340 [human] vaginal specimens showed an increase of isolates in the absence of C. albicans for all groups of microorganisms (168%), particularly for gram-negative bacteria (226%). A high frequency of polymicrobial vaginitis is noted, as is the probable importance of anaerobic microorganisms. Some special aspects of the pathogenesis of C. albicans infection are discussed.
