Abstract
A manifestly gauge-invariant theory of direct interaction between membranes is presented. The equations of motion found have no constraints in the type of interaction. The field theories associated with two classes of direct interactions are presented. The direct interaction between particles and membranes as well as the interaction between string and membranes are discussed. Some formal solutions to the free membrane equation of motion are exhibited. Keywords
