Abstract
Analyses of the concentration and distribution of serum lipoproteins by determination of cholesterol content and lipid dye binding capacity of electrophoretically separated serum protein fractions were carried out on 68 "normal" and 65 hospitalized men and on 77 men with a history of myocardial infarction. No appreciable differences in lipoprotein concentration or distribution were found between the 2 control groups, while highly significant differences were found in both alpha and beta lipoproteins between the control and coronary groups. The 2 analytical techniques gave comparable results. A limited number of ultracentrifugal determinations of lipoproteins with uncorrected flotation rates of Sf 12-20 were less effective than electrophoretic determinations in segregating atherosclerotic and "normal" populations. Keywords
