Abstract
Nine rats injd. intraperit. with 10/[mu]c of I131 in 0.5 ml. of physiol. saline, and kept anoxic by exposure to reduced atmospheric pressure (268 mm. Hg) for 36 hrs. showed a marked reduction ih the proportion of protein-bound I131 in the plasma compared to that in an equal number of non-anoxic controls. Avg. values for fraction of radioiodine which was protein-bound (precipitated by trichloracetic acid) in male anoxic rats was 8%, in male controls, 74%; in female animals, values were 2 and 49%, respectively. Pooled urine of male control rats contained 0.62% of injd. radioiodine, while that of anoxic animals contained 0.52%. Thyroids of male control rats contained an avg. of 62% and anoxic male rats 42% of injd. dose, values for females were 52 and 29%, respectively. Keywords
