Abstract
This article discusses how evidence-based practice informs the process of contracting for health and social care services and explores the difficulties that practitioners seem to have in integrating research into their work. It addresses the need for practitioners to develop appropriate skills to seek, develop and use evidence to underpin their practice and so demonstrate the effectiveness of the work they do. Strategies for skill development through continuing professional development are outlined. Keywords
