Abstract
The ultrafine structure of a normal prostatic acinar cell of the dog together with its relation to the basement membrane, basal cells, and associated blood capillaries was investigated by the electron micro-scope. An active tall secretory epithelial cell of the prostate gland is characterized by (1) a plethora of secretory droplets of varying size and density in the apical portion of the cell and (2) by a prominent Golgi complex located in the supranuclear area of the cell. The possible nature of the secretory mechanism in these cells is discussed. Inderdigitated between the bases of adjacent prostatic acinar cells are the "basel cells". These cells are characterized by their shape, their location, a cytoplasm of low electron density with few well-developed organelles. No fibrils are evident in these cells. The function of these cells is unknown. Keywords
