Abstract
The photoelectron and L2,3 MM Auger spectra of solid arsenic have been observed using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The experimental core level binding energies are compared with Hartree-Fock calculations. Experimental Auger energies are shown to be in agreement with calculations which make use of the empirical core level binding energies and atomic integrals evaluated in the Hartree-Fock calculations; the value of the static relaxation energy Rs was determined to be 23.8 eV+or-1.3 eV. The magnitude of atomic and extra-atomic contributions to the relaxation are discussed. Keywords
