Inclusive production of hadrons at highPTin 200 and 300 GeVπ−pandπ−-nucleus collisions

Abstract
Measurements of the production cross sections at large values of transverse momentum (PT) for π±, K±, p, and p¯ in 200 and 300 GeV πp collisions are presented. The dependences of the cross section on PT and the transverse scaling variable xT=2PTs are discussed. The ratios of production of different particle types, such as ππ+, K+π+, etc., are given, and are shown to be quite different from those in pp collisions. Data have been taken at three laboratory angles; the angular dependence is given and compared with theoretical models. Data on three nuclear targets allow an evaluation of the atomic-weight (A) dependence.
