Abstract
In their article ‘A Chapter of Errors’ Gray and Satterly made a number of criticisms of the Teaching Styles and Pupil Progress study. On examination it was found that many of these criticisms were based on misinterpretation due to their lack of knowledge and understanding of the measures, methodology and statistical techniques employed. In addition to countering these arguments this paper presents an overview of the latest research, all of which provides supporting evidence for the results and issues raised in Teaching Styles and Pupil Progress. The ‘rite’ of criticism is upheld in this young and difficult area of research with the proviso that it should be demonstrably accurate, fair and constructive. Keywords
