The amino acids of cytoplasmic and chloroplastic proteins of barley

Abstract
Amino acid analyses were performed by microbiological assay, with an error probably less than + 4%, on mixed protoplasmic proteins from seedlings, mixed protoplasmic proteins of mature leaf and chloroplastic proteins of mature leaf with the results: amide, 4.85, 4.75, 4.80; aspartic acid, 6.6, 6.6, 6.4, glutamic acid 8.0, 8.2, 8.2; proline, 3.9, 4.0, 4.1; glycine, 6.9, 6.5, 6.7; alamine, 8.3, 8.0, 7.9; valine, 5.1, 5.0, 4.9; leucine, 6.0, 5.8, 5.9; isoleucine, 4.5, 4.7, 4.2; phenylalanine, 3.1, 3.2, 3.0; tyrosine, 2.3, 2.2, 2.2; tryptophan, 1.9, 1.8, 2.0; serine 3.5, 3.3, 3.5; threonine, 4.0, 4.0, 4.0; cystine 0.9, 0.9, 0.9; methionine 1.2, 1.3, 1.4; lysine 7.9, 6.5, 7.1; histidine 4.2, 4.0, 4.1; arginine 15, 15, 15. The results are compared with data in the literature. Attention is drawn to the high degree of uniformity of the 3 preparations in constituent amino acids.
