Isolation of Toxoplasma gondii from Cysts in Human Brain

Abstract
Human brain tissue was obtained from fifteen autopsy cases of individuals who had died of causes unrelated to toxoplasmosis. Dye test titers were determined on blood or thoracentesis fluid and mouse inoculations were performed using homogenized, pepsin-treated tissue. T. gondii was isolated from one specimen, indicating a subclinical persistence of viable toxoplasmas in the brain.
