Abstract
Wood anatomy of the New Zealand Loranthaceae comprising six mistletoes, Alepis flavida (Hook. f.) Tieghem, Peraxilla colensoi (Hook. f.) Tieghem, P. tetrapetala (L. f.) Tieghem, Trilepidea adamsii (Cheeseman) Tieghem, Tupeia antarctica (Forster f.) Cham. et Schldl., and Ileostylus micranthus (Hook. f.) Tieghem, is described. Anatomical differences occur between the five genera and between Peraxilla colensoi and P. tetrapetala. Alepis flavida and Peraxilla tetrapetala contain silica inclusions in axial and ray parenchyma when parasitic on certain silica-containing hosts but a few exceptions are noted and accounted for. Peraxilla colensoi, Tupeia antarctica, and Ileostylus micranthus lack these inclusions even when parasitising silica-containing hosts. Anatomical evidence appears to be consistent with the taxonomic revision of the New Zealand Loranthaceae. Keywords
