Abstract
Rats were adrenalectomized at various times after expssure to whole body X-irradiation. It was found that for periods up to 5 days the shorter the interval between exposure and adrenalectomy, the shorter the survival, and if the operation is performed after this time no appreciable reduction in life span is noted. It is believed that these data indicate that as a result of irradiation there is an increase in demand for adrenal hormones which is greatest during or immediately after exposure and is reduced in from 3-5 days. It is suggested that this exptl. approach is applicable to other studies of adrenal function. Keywords
