Abstract
The use of technical ceramic analysis is not always feasible for the archaeologist seeking information concerning the locale of ceramic production. An alternative method for differentiating imported from locally produced ceramics, utilizing stylistic and functional attributes, is suggested. This method is operationalized in a functional analysis of three ceramic types from the Grasshopper Pueblo. The results of this analysis provide some cautionary implications for the archaeologist interpreting behavioral interactions by means of ceramic data. Keywords
