Studies on Mycoplasma of the "H" Serotype (Mycoplasma meleagridis) in the Reproductive and Respiratory Tracts of Turkeys

Abstract
In a study of 1 flock of turkeys, Mycoplasma organisms were frequently isolated from the vaginas of laying hens and the air sacs of poults. All of these organisms had similar cultural characteristics and several isolates from the vagina and air sacs were identified as M. meleagridis. Of 108 hens examined, Mycoplasma were isolated from the vaginas of 66 (61.6%). Attempts to isolate the organism from various sites of the adult hen yielded results suggesting that it is localized most frequently in the vagina and uterus. Fourteen hens were tested serologically, and all were positive for M. meleagridis.
