Abstract
Alteration of the 67Ga distribution after administration of chemotherapeutic agents was demonstrated in experiments on both normal and tumor-bearing animals. Eight patients were encountered who had 67Ga scintigrams in which the findings were similar to those in the animal experiments: markedly increased uptake in bone, with suppressed uptake in liver, muscle and tumor. Five of the patients had hematologic neoplasms, and 3 had solid tumors, and each had received 1 or more chemotherapeutic agents during the 24 h preceding 67Ga administration. In 3 patients while not on antineoplastic medication subsequent 67Ga images showed a return to the usual 67Ga distribution pattern. The altered 67Ga distribution may result from inhibition of protien synthesis or of a serum-binding agent for 67Ga or from competitive blockage of specific 67Ga organ receptors by the antineoplastic agents. This publication has 10 references indexed in Scilit:
