AROMATIZATION OF 7α-HYDROXYDEHYDROEPIANDROSTERONE AND OF ITS 3-SULPHATE BY OVARIAN AND PLACENTAL TISSUE CULTURES

Abstract
SUMMARY: Incubation of 7α-hydroxydehydroepiandrosterone or its sulphate with cultures of ovarian or placental tissue yielded 7α-hydroxyoestrone, 7α-hydroxyoestradiol and a product tentatively characterized as 7-oxo-oestradiol. These results show that the ovary can be the source of 7-oxygenated oestrogens.
