Abstract
Sheep and goats were fed a purified diet containing traces of all amino acids except isoleucine even though urea was the only N source added. The rumen material contained 9-26 more amino acids than the diet fed. Losses in feces and urine considerably exceeded the dietary intake. Apparently the 10 essential amino acids are synthesized in large amts. in ruminants fed urea as the only dietary source of N.Keywords
