Interactions Between Temperature and Toxicity of Four Insecticides Applied by Injection

Abstract
Milkweed bugs, Oncopeltus fasciatus. were injected with insecticides and stored for 24 hrs. at temps. of 10, 15, 22 and 29[degree]C. Nicotine was more toxic to nymphs than to adults, but toxicities increased with temp. in both. DDT produced a positive temp. coefficient between 10[degree] and 22[degree] C and a negative temp. coefficient between 22[degree] and 29[degree] C. With sodium azide, a fast-killing chemical, about equal mortality was recorded at all temp. with adults; with nymphs, mortality was reduced at low temp. Nymphs were more resistant than adults. Rotenone showed relatively no recovery of paralyzed individuals; high temp. caused greater toxicity than low.Keywords
