Abstract
Two thermal summation models were constructed for predicting the mean time of emergence of the adult western cherry fruit fly, Rhagoletis indifferens. The first model uses the basic day‐degree computation, where the daily thermal sum is computed as the difference between the average of the maximum and minimum daily temperatures and the lower developmental threshold temperature. The second model more accurately estimates the area under the daily temperature curve, bounded by both upper and lower developmental thresholds. Although the simple thermal summation model provides a less accurate estimation of the area under the temperature curve, it was found to be nearly as accurate in predicting the mean time of emergence of adult R. indifferens. Keywords
