Abstract
The urinary excretion of penicillin was detd. by the cylinder plate method following administration of 100,000 units to healthy young adults either intramusc, intraduodenally, orally with water, or orally with other substs. 60% excretion occurred after parenteral injn. in contrast to 14% excretion after oral ingestion. Destruction by gastric acidity was not primarily responsible for this diff. since putting penicillin directly into the duodenum with a tube did not greatly alter the amt. of penicillin excretion. Evidence indicating that most of the orally administered penicillin is destroyed by the body proper is discussed. This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
