Abstract
Clinical, laboratory, and pathologic features of a case of Histoplasma capsulatum endocarditis in a 57-year-old white male following an open mitral commissurotomy are presented. This is the second reported case of Histoplasma endocarditis following surgery. Treatment with amphotericin B failed in these two cases, though cases of Histoplasmosis endocarditis have been successfully treated. The importance of early diagnosis and treatment is emphasized. Keywords
