Abstract
A review of the physical state and chemical composition of the fatty acids in extracellular fluid. This includes a fairly comprehensive review of the lipoproteins, since much recent information concerning them has not been assembled in the context of their vehicular role in fatty acid transport. The literature pertaining to turnover and metabolism of unesterified and esterified fatty acids in the extracellular fluid is reviewed with as much conceptual organization as the available data permit. Keywords
