Abstract
The effects of ACTH and various steroids on thyroid wt. and collection of I131 by the rat thyroid was investigated. ACTH and cortisone both decreased the accumulation of I131 by the thyroid. Other compounds which produced this response were compound A, desoxycorticosterone and several estrogenic substances. Testosterone, estrone, progesterone and other compounds increased the collection of I131 by the thyroid. Dietary factors apparently may reverse the effect produced by steroid treatment or may augment the response. Keywords
