Hematologic Manifestations of Lysine Deficiency in Swine.

Abstract
Twenty-three swine were fed a diet deficient to lysfae and 5 were also given hexahomoserine (6-hydroxy-DL-norleucfae), a lysfae antagonist. All of the animals developed a normocytic, normochromic anemia, accompanied by hypoalbuminemia and hypo-cupremla. Plasma iron concentration and bone marrow morphology were apparently normal. The anemia responded rapidly to the administration of lysfae. The data indicate that lysfae is essential for normal erythropoiesis fa swine.
