Abstract
The minimum radius for negligible loss in bent buried channel waveguides could be significantly reduced by increasing the core index through UV-tuning after fabrication. The potential reduction in bend loss is quantified and a simple adiabaticity criterion is presented for the permissible rate of increase and decrease of the core index on either side of the bend. Keywords
