Serum Proteins in Guinea Pig Scurvy

Abstract
Reported changes in gamma globulin levels in guinea pig scurvy have differed, in part reflecting the type of controls used. The present study, undertaken to investigate serum protein changes in guinea pig scurvy, and to correlate these with the possible development of amyloidosis, showed no differences in gamma globulin levels between the experimental group and the controls. A constant finding was a decrease in serum albumin and an increase in alpha-1 globulin. Amyloidosis did not develop. Immunological procedures to study the development of scurvy-specific serum antigenic determinants were negative.
