Abstract
This unusually long and thoroughly integrated review is "directed initially to the chemical morphology, in terms of water and electrolytes, first of the animal as a whole and then of tissues and cells. Following this, wherever it is known, the participation of inorganic ions in the metabolic processes within cells and their contribution to the specific function of each organ" is described. The author is primarily concerned with developments since about 1940.Keywords
