Decrease of Adrenal Ascorbic Acid and Cholesterol in Rat and Guinea Pig, Following Large Doses of Glutathione

Abstract
Glutathione, in a dosage that increases K tolerance in mice (400 mg./100 g. body wt.) decreased adrenal ascorbic acid and cholesterol in rats and guinea pigs. Adrenal recovery occurs within 24 hrs. in rats but takes longer in guinea pigs. Glutathione also gave evidence of toxicity, having an LD50 of 300 and 830 mg./lOO g. for guinea pigs and mice, respectively, and an approx. MLD of 700 mg./lOO g. for rats.
