Abstract
The obligately anaerobic photoautotroph, Chlorobium limicola. possesses a cytochrome system which includes, in addition to a cytochrome pigment with absorption maxima at 415 and 553 mu, a cytochrome oxidase, a photo-oxidase and a DPNH-linked reductase. The activity levels of the photo-oxidase and reductase are comparable to those found in the facultative photon heterotrophe, Rhodospirillum rubrum. whereas the cytochrome oxidase activity in the anaerobe appears to be somewhat smaller in magnitude. No trace of the cytochrome-c pigment characteristic of R. rubrum is found in C. limicola. Keywords
